Clownfish feeding

I have 2 clown fish that are probably an inch to an inch and a half. I feed them flakes. They are about nickel size. The LFS said 1 or 1 1/2 flakes every 2 days should be sufficient does this sound right. My nitrates were between 20-40ppm so they told me cutting back on feeding should help also a small water change every 2 days?

i would feed them everyday, just do some water changes so you can bring the nitrates down. hope this helps...

Define small water change? How large is your tank?

A couple large water changes should correct you Nitrate levels.

The fish should be fed daily until they get larger then every other day would be fine.

It's a 6 gallon nano reef tank so I was think about doing a 1/4 of a gallon every other day or every 2 days. Does that sound good. I'm worried about tank starting the cycle over. Ammonia and nitrite both at 0.

Water changes won't restart a cycle.

unless your using tap water without a conditioner to get the chlorine out.

Even if thank is only in its 3rd week it should be fine? So should I continue to the 1/4 of a gallon every 2 days to lower nitrates?

How many fishes do you have in your 6 gal tank? How often do you do your water change?

You should have no fish in there while cycling.
Must have gotten bad advice from a fish store employee.
Happens all the time.

I wouldn't worry about feeding.Just how much ammonia is built up in that lil tank.

I'd change 1 gallon every 3-4 days, just to keep your nitrates in check. Realistically, 20-40ppm is fine for fish.

How much live rock do you have in there?

Is not this a bit much for a 6 gallon tank? I mean my two clowns are about 1.5 - 2in and they were a bit cramped in the 10G I had and they were the only thing in there besides a handful of coral's and some live rock. Do you have plans to upgrade as they grow (I am assuming they are babies right now).
