Aqua Medic - good quality ?

What's experience do you guys have with various Aqua Medic gear. The reviews seem to vary greatly from product to product. Both Aqua Medic and Tunze are German companies so I would guess they are both good quality.

I bought a little skimmer (turboflotor 500) from them based on good reviews and it being quiet.

I'm considering other gear like thier new controllable nano pumps but we'll see about that......

Most of their products are good quality, but they are not in the same league as Tunze, more of a middle of the road product where Tunze would be high end. I have owned several of their products over the years, most of which I still have and have logged a lot of hours on. I have never had one of their products fail, but that does not mean that they won't or can't.

I bought an Aqua Medic Turboflotor 1000 and it is crap. Albeit, if you were to research on the forum you will see almost only positive responses on it, so my mileage obviously differed. I can't speak for other AM products.

I have a Aqua Medic MH light and the thing seems to be well built. 18 months old no issues.

Stay away from Aqua Medic dosing pumps. The gears wear out within a year or less. Those pumps are not cheap and I've been very disappointed in their failure rate. Gone through three of them in two years. Jerry.

Stay away from their skimmers. I had the turboflotor 3000 blue and it is total crap. Then I got a tunze and the difference was huge. Save yourself some money and time.

Their dosing pump and ATO is junk.

Their skimmer is not the best but by far not the worst. If you couldn't get it to work I would look at operating error, improper install/tuning, or it just doesn't match the tank. This is one week of skim, they def work but would not be my first or second choice. Its the 5000 shorty iirc.

The kalkwasser reactor and lighting is great.

Read all the posts, thanks guys.

It's kind of what I've been seeing in other places - depending on the product, the reviews swing all over the place- but great input just the same. Should have gone with Tunze but for now I'll stick with the 500 and let you guys know how it goes.

Thanks again..

I have the Aqua Medic 500 for a breeder tank and I am very happy with it.
Spare parts are cheap and readily available.

Dosing pumps and ATO have had issues.

Skimmers seam to be working very well.

I believe they are in the process of releasing new skimmers at Inter Zoo.
