Which rock would you go with?
I was all set to order my live rock when I has second thoughts. I was going to go with a combination of 40lbs of Bulk Reef Supply Reef Saver and 40lbs or Bulk Reef Supply Fiji. However, I am thinking of changing to 100lbs MarcoRocks Key Largo. Now the question, which would you choose and why?

From everything that I can tell, the BRS reef saver and marcorocks look pratically identical. I would go with which ever is the cheapest. A good thing about the marco rocks is that you can choose to do a package with 5 lbs of live rock to seed the dry rock.

I've never ordered Marco, so I can't comment on that, but I've ordered an absolute ton of BRS rock and personally I'll never buy anything else again. In my experience BRS stuff tends to be much more "honeycombed" or otherwise visually appealing on average than what I've received from elsewhere. Granted, I don't order the BRS fiji, I tend to go with reef saver or pukani topped with the branch at about an 80/20 ratio. YMMV.

I sort of like the man made "reef rocks." It's been growing on me.
But from the choices you listed I prefer BRS. I've ordered from both but the shapes i've recieved from BRS suited my needs better. |

I like the Fiji "live rock." That's all I've used for years on end and it's been really good to me. I did get it from some of the LFS in my area though. It's nice to be able to cherry pick.

No ID's, what a shame. Dead rock. The concrete jungle I guess... It's a reef tank, "live" should be where it's at.

I don't know about the rock from BRS, but Marco Key Largo can be dropped right in, no curing/cooking required. I use nothing but Marco; well packed, quick shipping and really nice pieces.

marco is already cured. rock from brs is not. slight chance of leaching from marco (although rare), HUGE chance of leaching from brs.

Having used rock from a few different places I suggest Tampa Bay Saltwater for base rock. The porosity of the rock is incredible.

Some people absolutely love the look of the pukani, however, which is why it is a popular option. Either way, they are both great base rocks and I don't think you can go wrong with which ever you pick! |

Thanks for all the great feedback. I ended up going with a combination of BRS reef saver, Fiji, and pukani.
