Building new sump, need some opinions

I'm upgrading from a 20g to 40g sump on my 150g tall DT. I'm also upgrading to a mag 24 which after head loss will pump around 1,700 gph.

How much flow should I run through the fuge? I'm thinking about zoning it off similar to Melev's 55g sump build. I think the full 1,700 gph would be too much.

Should I split the return and have one on each side or should I put it on one side and have the flow all go the same direction in the tank? Since it's a short, tall tank I was thinking about putting the return on one side and splitting it to two heads. One head would be at the top and one about mid tank to help get good flow for the whole 30" depth. The tank isn't drilled so I don't have to worry about the middle head causing a siphon when power goes out.

Any thoughts?

500-900 GPH through the refugium would be good, so close to half the flow.
