RO/DI expiration of filter media?
So I bought my current RO/DI system years ago. It sat in storage for multiple years with brand new media in it. How long should I expect the carbon and DI resin to be good for? Would you expect the media is still be good or would it really need to be replaced before I use it?
I have an old handheld TDS meter I never got the chance to use, but nothing to calibrate it with. Otherwise, I'd just check TDS. I need to order a new RO filter casing since the casing cracked and I'm leaking. I'm trying to decide what else to order out of the gate...but still hoping to salvage whatever I can from the old system. It's a purelyh20 system. Thoughts? |

I also have a Purely H2O system. I would probably replace the resin and carbon since they are not that expensive and have been sitting for a couple of years. You should be fine with the membrane, just flush it good.

unless the carbon was in a humid environment it should last forever.. it is carbon after all. If the DI is color changing and has not changed color or dried out it is fine.

I would recommend you change out the DI resin. Everything else should be good.

If the carbon was closed up, it is fine. Only organics from the air are a concern, and tha tis probably minimal concern if closed.
DI's can be partly depleted by CO2 entering them if not protected well from air. But set it up and see what TDS you get after the DI.
