Cleaning foggy glass

Let me start by saying this is my first post and have never been on any forum ever so please bare with me.

I inherited a tank (about 30 gallons) that has a foggy film on the inside. Searching the forums I read that it might have been caused by hard water? I am wondering what I should try for cleaning it. Have already tried a razor and scotchbrite with little to no success. It seems to have etched the glass if that is possible.

Thanks for any suggestions y'all might have

I would not reccomend cleaning it with cleaners or if you do make sure you rinse it really good befor you use it. Also try boiling water and pour it in there. If it is from hard water use some 4o9 on it. Make sure to rinse really really good.

Clean the inside of the tank with RO water and vinegar and rinse it well. If the glass is scratched there is really no easy way to fix it.

im kinda having the same problem with my 75 gallon, the glass isnt too bad, but the center brace is really bad. I would like to get it really clean so it dosent block as much light.. I tried vinegar and a magic eraser and scrubbed and scrubbed...but still no luck.. tagging this thread for more ideas to try

if the tank is empty, why couldn't the OP use CLR (available from most grocery stores and hardware outlets.)

Just wash it out very well. Thoughts?

I think he could if he then used vinegar and water and rinsed like hell to be sure the CLR is all gone...

i use CLR all the time on alot of different things. i have also used CLR to clean the inside of several used tanks i have bought in the past. just make sure to rinse it out very well and you will be fine.

but if it really is etched into the glass like i have seen happen before then CLR will not work for you and like mentioned above there really is no easy way to fix it beyond buffing and polishing the glass. at that point it is just worth it to buy another small tank like you have.
