how to keep chaeto in compartment in an AIO
I have a 16g Innovative Marine Nuvo aquarium. This is a 24" long aquarium with dual overflows (one on each side of the aqurium). The water flows over the overflow down through a media rack and then under a baffle and up into a separate chamber. It is the same setup on both sides of the tank. These chambers are for things like a fuge, heater, skimmer, etc. I have the right chamber set up as a fuge and the left for my heater. Anyhoo, I am having problems keeping the chaeto in the chamber. The water flow keeps pushing it up over the second baffle and into the return chamber in the middle. What is a cheap and easy fix? I was thinking possibly some type of mesh screen that the water could flow through but not the chaeto. However, I am unsure how to secure the mesh screen so that it also doesn't flow into the return chamber. the mesh screen would also have to be removable so I can trim back the chaeto when it grows out. I didn't have this problem with my previous AIO so I am not quite sure how to fix it. Has anyone else had the same problem with chaeto not staying in the correct chamber? If so, how did you correct the problem? Thanks!

a pic would help, but you could consiter egg crate surrounded by the weather stripping they sell at auto zone. The weather stripping should hold it in place against the water current, but still removable

It wouldn't hurt it the weather stripping got wet too? I'll post some photos of the back of a Nuvo in the morning. I have to leave for work now.

I'm basically recycling the idea of pressure-locking sump baffles from wet web media.
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume...bafflesart.htm I, as well as many others, use the auto zone weather stripping submerged. Definitely reef safe. |

Gutter guard! Cut it so it fits snug in the chamber. http://www.homedepot.com/Building-Ma...&storeId=10051

I nave one of these tanks. I used two small 25w heaters in the pockets on either side of return pump. I build a hang on the back fuge similar to CPRs design, just a little smaller. That's where I keep my Cheato as the two smaller areas weren't large enough. I have a bag of carbon in one and gfo in the other. The updraft sides make for a pretty good reactor area.
