Running ozone temporary adhoc basis

Anyone run ozone on a random basis? There are some units on eBay (20$)that are 400mg/hr with timers with internal pump and airstone. They start at 5 min and run in increments to 30 min. Would it hurt to run one for 5-30 minutes just on a adhoc basis? Ie just hook it up and set the timer to 5 min every day or when ever I think about it/clean the skimmer?

I can't stress this enough: Taking chances with ozone is putting anything living in your tank is at risk. Ozone has the power to wipe out your livestock and hurt you. Its not a toy you can just "try out" for a day.

Years ago I ran a red sea 200 with controller and reactor. I had good results at the time. I would build a reactor and run the effluent through carbon. I realize the dangers, but 5-10 minutes once a day could not hurt (??) That would be much less than the red sea ever produced.

I do agree and the listing states just run it in your house, car, etc with no warnings. SMH

I am a proponent of ozone, I have been running it since about 2004/5 and with a small dose it can be very effective and safe. I use a 25 mg/hr unit and run it half throttle on about 120 gallons of water. I would never advocate running a large dose, there is just no reason to and the potential hazards are just not worth it. My minimal dose keeps the water crystal clear and there are minimal worries with a small dose. I created a second venturi on my recirc skimmer and run the effluent over carbon. There IMO is no reason to run a large dose.
