new to saltwater

Hello all,
I have ventured over to the saltwater side. I am starting out small with a 10gallon, and figure if it all works out I'll go bigger. I am only two weeks into the cycle. I placed live sand and live rock. I also placed one blue damsel. So far everything has been going good. I know I need to upgrade my light so I can add Dom coral after the cycle. Ph has been around 8.2.
I hope it all works out. I always wanted a reef aquarium. This site has been very helpful, am sure I'll have questions along the way.

Dom

Hey Dom,

looking good- don't worry about lights or reefs just yet- once you get your water stable, and it takes time, the rest is a piece of cake. Next time you set up a tank, I wouldn't add the damsel yet. Although they are hardy, it's a very old school, inhumane way to cycle a tank, and its much easier just to use live rock, or through in a piece of dead shrimp. Just my two cents.

Welcome! Don't rush anything in this hobby, it will only cost you money. There's tons of info around so feel free to ask away.

Tank looks good. 10 gal. cylinider looks interesting. I would add some more rock. It will increase the filtration ability of the tank which would be beneficial to a small system, plus it will allow you to place corals closer to your lighting, which also may be beneficial.

Thanks for the tips. I waited a week before adding the fish. so far everything smooth. Already reading .10 ppm of nitrite. Going to be doing first water change. Hope it goes as plan.
