No, not really. They soon die. It's just not kind fo keep them. If you have algae, get a GFO reactor and fix it. An algae eater just poos the stuff back into your tank and it never cures it.

Salinity 1.024-6; alkalinity 8.3-9.3 on KH scale; calcium 420; magnesium 1300, temp 78-80, nitrate .2. Ammonia 0. No filters: lps tank. Alk and cal won't rise if mg is low.

Current Tank Info: 105g AquaVim wedge, yellow tang, sailfin blenny,royal gramma, ocellaris clown pair, yellow watchman, 100 microceriths, 25 tiny hermits, a 4" conch, 1" nassarius, recovering from 2 year hiatus with daily water change of 10%.

I had one and it laid eggs everywhere and I mean everywhere. Made more of a mess then it cleaned. Lasted maybe 4 month's not very long lived.

not to contradict Sk8tr she is right but if you have a lfs that is willing to take it back when your done and you can keep an eye on it easily enough. i have used them to rid the bulk of HA problems. of course when they run out of HA they die, so having an exit plan is immportant but they eat a LOT of hair algae. i think there are a couple species this is the one i have had luck with for HA grazing only
