coffee filter for mechanical filtration?

as the title describes, would a coffee filter work well for mechanical filtration?i am wondering whether others have tried it, or what you all thought of it. TIA

If you mean the paper ones, they probably can't withstand the constant flow in a fish tank.
Maybe for other uses like filtering phyto or rotifers, and I would use the brown ones since the whites are bleached.

a long time ago, on a freshwater tank, I tried one rubber banded to the output of an hob filter... (it was catching things as they were pushed through as I had stirred detritus in the tank....) it kind of almost worked, but the flow was a bit much for it, and it frayed out pretty easily. I would think if you folded them up and it was top down flow, they might hold up a little better... but in general, I wasn't all that happy with the results...

I would think it would clog right away.

i didnt even consider the bleached aspect!much appreciated everybody i figured it wouldn't be a long-term solution, just something to collect a lot of the larger stuff that somehow manages to escape the tangle of Chaeto
