Overflow or Strainer?

So I was wondering what is better to do? Pros and Cons for both?

Can you please elaborate on your question a little bit? A filter sock is basically a strainer, but I'm not sure where I'm supposed to go with that.

the overflow is better. it gets more surface scum. a long overflow is preferred
