Bought a 40B.....For No Reason Whatsoever...
I FINALLY caught the infamous Petco $1 Per Gallon sale.......needless to say I caught it at a time when I DIDN'T need a tank! Lol. I have a 210 DT / found a used 75 for a sump / and I have a 27 cube that I will use initially as a QT. But just because I had been waiting on taking part in this sale for so long, I bought a 40B.......and it was only $40....go figure.
I initially started my SW interests because of the variety and variations of fish......but now I am LPS crazy ......ESPECIALLY Euphyllia!!! Can a 40B be set up as a decent sized frag tank to mature some LPS in (i.e. give me more room for more pieces/colors of LPS!? Insights please...... |

I setup a BTA tank next to my display and plumbed it into the display so I didn't have any additional water quality issues.
Just plumb it into the display and do with it as you please. This is my bta tank when I first set it up. I bet there are 60 btas in it now.

LOL I did the exact same thing last week, saw the sale and picked up a 40b and 20L.
Both still sitting in the garage in original box collecting dust, gf still has stern look on face. I don't care, I'll find a use for them eventually |

Euphyllia or me too. I have 3 diff kind but want one head of like 25+ . I am starting to jones on the purple hammer w green tips, lol.
"IMHO" I think you would do fine if you placed them on the bottom. A good size, which is rare, is the size of a basketball, so, figure a basket ball that needs to be covered with water. A 16 deep tank should do. I know there is bigger out there, but, I have not seen it and if you are gonna grow it, it would take a while to get that big. |

Good score. 40 breeders are about the best "small" standard sized tanks you can use for a reef, IMO.

Some progression picks of a hammer I have had for several years... Is in the middle right of the tank.
It has been about 5 years since it has been touched by human hands The last pic is 1.5 years old... Its bigger now. No idea how many heads but its in the hundreds.
