Cool Distance from water for light

Hi I was wondering how high I should have my 250 W metal halide and 4x24 W t5 actinic lights I should have off my 29 gallon reef. I want them high enough off the top to not heat the water up. I will have a cheapo Wal-mart fan in the sump area to keep things a bit cooler. So, with the fan, how high should I have the light off the top?

Good evening steeler fan, with your 250w. Halide on a 29 gallon id say 12 inches. Hope this helps. . .
