Easiest and Cheapest Way to Remove Brown Cyano?
I have a 55g FOWLR. I've had it for approximately 157 days. I went through the brown cycling algae the first few months. I am getting it back now so. My question is, should I still be getting brown algae, or what I have is Cyano? It's making me crazy.

if its cyano, you just gotta keep on truckin. we've all gone through it. just keep on removing it with a turkey baster. it sucks the ducks i know. some things that help are increasing flow, reducing photo period, and adding a refugium with macro. don't let the frustration get to you and resort to chemical fixes (red slime removers), they're usually broad spectrum antibiotics which will kill beneficial bacteria along with the cyanobacteria.

What has changed in your aquarium since you started noticing the cyano? Was it a very slow and gradual buildup or in a week or two? New food? New fish? Feeding more?
I am battling cyno too, but I think I've turned the corner and it's decreasing. The key for me was lights out for 3 days and covered the tank with black lawn-leaf bags so no light got in. I also added a phosban reactor. I think phosphates from some added rock was the cause of the outbreak. |

My tiger tail sea cucumber eats everything on the sanded. I usually saw him stirring up the cyano when I went through this bout with both my tanks.
