You gotta post a link to what you are buying. 55 led thing sounds like the generic Chinese LED fixture. There is a huge thread about them on here. Research there.

I did and I'm really just even more confused. Where can I go and see a list of the specifications and features (I need) on a lighting system..... Like preferred par lvls, lumens, spectrum, you know the meat and potatoes
![]() If I had a base value list that I could compare to what I want to buy it would be so much easier..... Where is this list ![]() |

I dont know much about LED’s but I know these Chinese lights dont run at 3 watts. 3X55 is not 120.. And the fans and controls pull some electric. That said most everyone I see is running the 3 watts at less than 50% power so its not a big concern.

The first one looks to be like most chinese black boxes but the seller is suspect with 0 feedback.
The secont is crap as mentioned above. The third is also like most other black boxes but not dimmable. Read more of the chinese LED thread, there are many sources listed for where to look. Just be sure you know what your getting and who you're getting it from. |

What makes the second one crap, you guys say not enough power, should I not be looking at the numbers that they've provided as reliable numbers even through the same if not better than the other two lights numbers I posted?

Out of those 3 I would go with the first unit, it's dimmable which would be a plus when adding new coral. The second one no go like the post above they would not be powerful enough to handle coral in my opinion. My 2 cent

Do yourself a favor and check the china led thread near this one. Then go to alibabba and order a decent china unit.

I am researching lights too right now. What I can tell you is that, regardless of what power they are driven at, you want LED's rated at 3 watts. 3 watt leds give better penetration, par value's, and are a sign of a higher quality product, as they cost more than 1 watt bulbs. As far as why there are no hard and fast spectrum, lumen, or par value requirements, it is because it varies dependant on what you keep and where it is in your tank. For example, if you are just keeping soft corals, the requirements are lower than for sps. Or if you are okay with keeping sps at the top of the tank, the requirements of the light are lower than if you want to keep them lower in the tank.
