Fuge/Sump Layout - Will This Work?

Greetings:

I'm currently in the process of planning my 180 build and have FINALLY managed to procure (nearly) all of the pieces I need to get this going.

Before I do, however, I need to know if my proposed fuge/sump layout will work.

A couple of notes on the below:

1) None of my drawings are to scale, nor is anything meant to show actual dimensions. I quickly put this together in word, just to show the general layout.

2) The fuge is a standard 40 breeder, sump is a standard 65.

3) The two tanks will be situated on top of one another on an industrial shelving unit, with 2,000 lbs of capacity per shelf.

4) The fuge/sump system will be located in the basement, below the main DT.

So...how 'bout it? Will this work? Any problems I'm setting myself up for? Anything I should know before building it?

Thanks a ton in advance!!!

No problem assuming there is plenty of vertical height between the two tanks to allow you to service the bottom tank, skimmer and pump.

It looks pretty good...One thing you might want to do is put a few valves in. The first I would put on the refugium side after the split from the DT. This way you can adjust the flow into the refugium (something I wish I had).

I would put another valve before the split and another after the pump back to the DT. This way you can control any excess water flow into or out of the sump.

Definitely. After reading the multitude of posts by people wishing they had plumbed valves and unions in the beginning, I've planned multiple valves and unions to control flow throughout the system. I just didn't want to jumble up the diagram by putting them in.

No doubt, however, I'll soon wish I had more....
