mp10+copper, can I use it in a reef?
I have an mp10 that I had used in QT with cupramine. Can I clean it in vinegar and still be able to use it in a reef tank?

I have cleaned my MP40's with vinegar all the time and put them back it. Just rinse them off before putting them back in.

Just out of curiosity why use a Vortech in a QT tank to begin with? AFAIK only inverts like SPS need crazy flow and it would be wasted on just fish and you obviously werent QTing inverts with copper.

No but I don't see why it would matter. Does bottle with the copper say not to have power heads while giving treatment? Rinse the wet side so you don't have to worry about the vinegar mixing with the copper if that's what you are worried about.

They are obviously made out of reef safe/food safe plastic and that would mean the plastic should not absorb chemicals, BUT it does have an O ring that might??
I would think a good through cleaning/soaking with vinegar would be good. Email Ecotech and ask them.

The vinegar will help to dissolve any copper and wash it away. If it's just an MP-10 wetside, that's not a lot of area. I'd probably give it a good vinegar rinse and use it. If there's any copper left after that, it would have to be a miniscule amount. I would think it would be OK.

The backer on the wetside seems kinda like spongey material, the hard plastic would probably be OK but not sure about the softer backing. At least with an MP if you are worried you could just get a new wetside.

I'm just now considering setting up my 1st reef tank.. a 33g, which was my QT tank with copper. I'm going to have to wipe it down real good with vinegar. The LFS guy was about to freak out when I told him I was going to reuse my QT tank. Thanks for the comment guys.
