Hydroids

So today I came home from work to find a ton of hydroids all over the glass and floating around in the tank... they're the ones that look like a snowflake like the picture here http://www.ultimatereef.net/info/iddb/hydroids.php

Will they go away on their own? They seemed to pop up overnight, so I'm hoping they'll disappear just as fast!

When I first setup my 40 breeder and after it cycled I had an outbreak of hydroids. They wound up going away on their own. Im guessing since nothing was in the tank they had no food supply.

Ok, now I'm seeing the hydroids popping up on my LR and they look like little feather dusters or tube worms... grrr... what can I do to get rid of them?

Scrape them off?
Nuke them with kalk paste like you do for aiptasia?
Other suggestions?

They will disapear on their own. You are wasting time scraping. You will never find them all.

I just had a similar outbreak, one day the glass was covered in them less than a week later, they were gone...

Ive had them everywhere forawhile...I just wipe them lff the glass and think of them as extra coral food...I understand your frustration with them though, they cover my glass and make my water look cloudier....I just figured I was doing something right with them and the copepods I see everywhere.

Are hydroid outbreaks related to an overabundance of nutrients? I had very small colonies that I though were tube worms and they didn't really take off until hair algae started growing on the rocks. Will they go away once I improve water quality or do I need to remove rocks that have the colonies? I have heard that the only way to get rid of them is remove and bleach the rocks that have colonies!
