Drill holes in Sea Swirls?
Do I need to drill holes in my Sea Swirls for anti-siphon? If so, where do I drill them?

My sea-swirls only go into the water a couple inches.
How deep is yours?

There is a hole in the crotch of the elbow on mine. But mfinn says, it isn't that far in the water. Mine's about an inch below the water line.

The thing you have to be careful of when you plan for power outages and water returning to the sump, is leaving enough room in the sump for water that will syphon back to the sump.
I measure the depth of the return nozzle on the lowest ( in the tank) in inches and mulitply it by the width and length of the tank and then divide by 231. That will give you the gallons that will travel back to the sump when the pumps are turned off or a power outage. So 2" x 72" x 18" = 2592 then divide by 231 = 11.2 gallons of water.

I measure to the absolute lowest point of the return, just to be safe. Somewhere nearer to the middle of the lowest return may be more realistic.
I also do make freshwater tests to get a better idea of what will actually happen.
