Can BeanAnimal/Herbie be made to work with two overflows
Apologies if this question has been done to death. There seems to have been quite a bit of discussion on the topic all these years, but I haven't seen anything which addresses my specific question. Here goes:
I have an Oceanic tank (110) with two overflow compartments, each with drilled 1" and 3/4" holes. By compartment, I mean a box surrounding the two trains, siliconed from the base of the tank to nearly the top. Allow me some crummy ascii art :) ...[O o] [o O] ....1 2...3 4 I've been reading up on BeanAnimal and Herbie's designs for silent overflows. They both seem better adapted to tanks where all the tank inputs and outputs are in a shared compartment. In my case, the two sets of drilled holes are in separate, sealed compartments. In a Herbie setup I could make 1 the siphon drain, 2 the secondary/emergency, and 3 the return. The problem with what to do with 4 and how to keep the water in that compartment from going stagnant. Can I make 4 into a drain and gate valve it's flow as well? Should I connect it to drain (1)? Does anyone have experience with this setup, or can someone point me to a post where they discuss it? I'd like a little certainty before I go glue up a bunch of expensive valves :) Thanks! |

Oh, just found this.
http://reefcentral.tv/forums/showthread.php?p=20389221 However, I still don't see how you keep the level equalized in the compartments without running the return over the back. (which seems like it should be avoidable in a tank with 4 holes in it!) I feel like this would be easier if the two overflows were connected. Last edited by perverseosmosis; 07/29/2012 at 03:50 PM.
