Jumped Ship into LED's
Some of you already know I jumped on over to LED side. After being in a tug of war with it. I decided I will bite the bullet and save me some money on my electric bill. I decided to go with an American made product in the Apollo Reef LED. This fixture has been proven to grow SPS, LPS, Softies and Clams.
I was thinking about going with the Chinese lighting LED that are also making a splash into the LED world. I just decided to go with something that was going to work with my Apex Controlller which is why I decided on the Apollo fixture. The price was right @ $379.99 plus shipping which isn't much. Here is a whole review on the Solar Blast unit http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2183870 I went with the Solar Blast Artic- Red 44PC for my 60G Cube the spread covers more than 30" across and more than 40" in depth, since my tank is only 24"X24"X24" this was a perfect fit. Anyhow here is the unboxing and installation of my fixture over my DT Had to get the level out fired up FTS this is almost in a warm yellow color but I was still playing with the spectrum of the lighting More of a Blue look

went to a 6 bulb sunpower. light hanger I made kept bending in due to the weight of the solarblast. Lowest I could have kept it would be between 2-4 inches away from the water.

Review on Solar Blast Artic-Red
So far I have had this up and running for about a week now, and all I got to say is I am really impressed with the quality and design of this fixture. The color intensity is pretty sick and with the Blues and UV Purples that are dim together really gives a nice Pop to all corals and colors.
The white are super cool and dim together with the reds. Right now my intensity for blues are at 80% and white are at 40%... I have the 20K look that I always like and with the addition to the reds coming on with the whites it really pops out the red and orange colors greatly. But as a fan of T-5, I still feel T-5 are a better match for LED's the only downside for T-5 are the bulb purchases every year. The fact that I have a system that I don't have to buy lighitng for anymore for another 7-10 years thats got to be a great deal in itself. I am happy with the purchase and can say that LED's are the future of reefing.
