Best reefing books?

I just got some amazon bucks and was thinking of picking out a good reefing book. I have recently become more serious about keeping sps but i would also like to read about how to set up a larger system. i am not looking for any one cover it all book but for some suggestions on good reefing books in general.

The best books are none, the information available online is far more current and the information available in books which hasn't been updated. Fun to read they may be, but I would not bother trying to gain information on setting up a system.

One of the newest books out is The Coral Reef Aquarium by Tony Vargas.

Scott W. Michael is a well respected author. His pocket books and series are both very good.

+1 Good book with good information on a variety of tanks as well as a show case of various tanks from all over.

Nano-reef handbook by Tim Brightwell is also a good source. I realize that you want a "larger" system too, but he explains some of the finer points of chemistry and other factors well too.

Sirreal also makes a good point about info on the forums, but I believe those two books would provide a firm foundation to build off of.

+1.

I find myself referring to some of the books I have quite a bit too, especially "Reef Invertebrates" by Robert Fenner & Anthony Calfo. I don't think there's really anything new in the book "The Coral Reef Aquarium" by Tony Vargas, but I want it...

The Reef Aquarium Vol. 3 by Julian Sprung and J. Charles Delbeek. Amazing resource, super comprehensive. I highly recommend it.

Thanks everybody for all the great suggestions. I ended up getting the Vargas book and am very much enjoying it. I hope to get around to many of the other titles mentioned.

Kind of... There's a reson why new books don't come out on a regular basis. It's just the same old information rehased under a different name. Once you understand the baseline, it's all just experiences... (lighting, flow, neighbors, etc) The nitrogen cycle works the same, whether it's a saltwater reef tank in the family room or a sawed off wine barrel on the patio. (freshwater) There's a member here who has a tag, "Less technology, more biology." Ain't that the truth...

+1 Cloak...

All Aquaria books aren't useless! Especially for people learning, or wanting to expand their knowledge. Not necessarily the latest "product info" and technical details, but great for overall theory, fish study, methods, troubleshooting, etc. It doesn't hurt to read up! Supplement that book knowledge with the ton of online forum info and your local reef club "real world" folks help. There are many good ones, I'll throw one out for now:

Martin A. Moe's "Marine Aquarium Handbook: Beginner to Breeder" is considered one of the best reef books written. Latest edition has lots of good more recent stuff. Definitely a good purchase, by one of the most respected pioneers in the industry:

(dang -Edit button- timeout window, ugh) New post then...

Couple more books frequently recommended by many reefers:

Robert Fenner's "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist."

Eric Borneman's "Aquarium Corals: Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History"
