walmart buckets?

Hey everyone, I apologized so much if this question has been asked, but i cant find the answer I am looking for in the search. Is it ok to store my reef crystals salt in a generic blue 5 gallon bucket from walmart? Didn't know if the salt would absorb any chemicals from the bucket or if the bucket differed from the buckets that the salts are usually sent in? Thanks for any help in advance.

I am not sure about the Wal-Mart buckets as I have never used them before.

I can however recommend if you have a Lowe's by you to get the 5 gallon white buckets from there. They are FDA approved Food Grade buckets and are really sturdy. They are not much money at $4.00 each plus $1.50 for a lid. I use them for storing salt, and water changes. I also store RO/DI in one for emergency's.

Hope this helps.

Just make sure you get lids with rubber seals.

Nothing worse than driving, with a bucket, somewhere and it tips and water goes everywhere.

I picked up a bucket at Lowe's a while ago and it had measurement marks showing gallons and liters and it had a nice padded handle. Both have come in handy.

i agree, and i use them too, doesnt mean they are safe for long term. i read that the material is food grade, however the dye/pigment used to make them orange is not. probably not a big deal for tranport etc, but might not want to use for long term storage of salt or RO water.

after some more research, it appears that the bucket might not be food safe due to the coloring (orange). check out this link http://www.survivalistboards.com/sho...d.php?t=146442 think i will use them for short term storage but not long term.
