emerald crabs hiding

I have a couple of emerald crabs that have completely disappeared for the last few days. I finally found one again this morning, but it's still totally tucked away in a little cave. I assume that they're probably just moulting, but I'm wondering how long is typical for them to hide? My fire shrimp have moulted several times and usually only disappear for about a day. I haven't noticed any hermits moulting yet.

I've have 2 in my tank for almost 8 months and I've actually only seen them maybe a dozen times. They are always tucked away in the rock work and never venture out in the open in my tank.

Emerald crabs can be personable or very reclusive. It will come around in its own time.

Mine were reclusive at first too. After a couple of weeks they started to come out during the day. I found the females to be the most reclusive, while the males are out all the time.

That's why I'm kind of curious, I've had them about 3 weeks, and right from the outset they were everywhere! They were constantly out grazing.

It's good to get the feedback that they go through phases.

Well, I just got home and found a shell under a rock. Now I'm quite sure one of them is moulting. Doesn't look like a body.

I have had one for 2 weeks and very rarely do I see him. Usually hiding in the rock work. They will come out to look for food when they get used to the tank. Usually after the lights go out. Mine comes out when just the Blue moonlights are on.

The crabs are masters at hiding. I put a pom-pom crab in my tank 3 years ago and then never saw it again. I figured it died. Then a few months ago I spotted it under a rock at feeding time! So, they are probably just hanging out behind the rocks and in crevices. Makes it a treat when you DO get to see one.
