Aqua Space Light 72" Anyone have info on them?
I picked up a 250g tank the other day with the light mentioned above that include 3x 250w HQI with 4 CF lights. I am not familiar with these all in one units. I currently run on my 125g 2 x 400w MH plus 4 x 54w T5HO lights. I am taking the 125 down and upgrading to the 250.
How are these lights. Not much online on them. Are they safe? Are they good? Should I use this or just run my old set up? |

That is a very old one! It will work but the reflectors are not up to today's standards.

How good are these ballast? On my 400's I have Icecaps electronic ballast running them. These are magnetics. Attached I have the bulbs included. Seems like Aqualines. Was wondering if I could run another kind of bulbs off these ballast such as Radiums.

Radiums are a single ended bulb in the 250 watt. To get a better understanding of the ballast in that fixture, contact AquaMedic in Colorado, it isn't labeled very well but it looks like one of the old ones that used a step down for our voltage. It may run a Radium but honestly with as old as it is I would not be comfortable with it's performance. A new M80 is about 130 bucks and will power a Radium to spec.

I might pull them off and run my 400w ballast through them instead. It sure will make the unit lighter with the ballast external. What I have now in my 125g are just some cheap reflectors in my canopy running 2 x 400w single ended bulbs. With this unit it will make a cleaner look and I can do away from building a new canopy and hang it above the tank for a cleaner look. Im due in two months for new bulbs anyways so Ill get some 400w DE bulbs then. I still need to work on the stand anyways. Guy was selling this 250g tank/stand with the light fixture for $300 so I had to jump on it. Just need to finish up the stand. I wasnt prepared for this new tank so I will have several months before it is up and running which in the mean time I can prepare the light fixture. Thanks for the reply

No doubt and it is a good plan. I have one of those that is just slightly newer (and a lot shorter) and I gutted it for an external ballast. It it were mine I would also remove the cfl's and replace them with LED's or T5's for actintics. Those compact florescent's are such power hogs and heat machines. They have a great color but are so inefficient.
