Quarantine tank
I have had my tank set up for. Wile now, and I want to start adding fish at some point. I have purchased and set up a quarantine/ hospital tank and I need some feedback on how to manage the quartiletine tank.
I should have made a build thread but my tank has been cycling for over a month now . Thanks! Emily |

my QT is a 10 gallon tank with a HOB filter with filter floss. i cyled the QT tank using ammonia. having a fully cycled QT tank has really made things easier on me, i currently have two clowns in my QT going through hypo. i have been vacuuming the poo and just replacing that amount of water needed to vacuum. i only do that every 4-5 days. its been nice not having to do daily water changes.
tank is jsut bare bottom tank with some 1.5" and 2" pieces of PVC pipe. Filter is just a HOB with filter flossk media |

Would it be a bad idea to put marbles at the bottom? I have a log in there, but I want my hospital tank to look pretty too. I understand parasites live some of their life cycles in substrates, but I figured a few marbles couldn't hurt. If its a bad idea I would rather have a more functional tank and sacrifice aesthetics.

Also, should I keep it hypo at all times?

Your QT should be as bare as possible. Adding decorations, IMO, will throw off your total water volume in turn possibly causing misdosing of medications. Marbles in the bottom of the tank would also cause issue when it comes to vacuming the dutritus that is sure to build up with fish in it.
Hyposalinity is a treatment for ridding your fish of ich and is done by gradually decreasing the salinity of the tank over a span of 1-2 weeks. So there is no reason to keep your QT in hypo all the time.

The log i am referring to is a plastic fish hide equivalent to a piece of 1.5" PVC pipe. It shouldn't be a problem to calculate the total volume of displaced water, should there be any that would cause any significant issues.
