What should I do with a 45 cube, RC?

My dad is getting me a 45 cube (24x24x18) as an early b-day present, as well as for staining the deck. I don't know what I want to do with it other than being something unique that I won't do in the 120 reef I am setting up.

Clown and nem tank?
Small lion/scorp macro tank?
Other ideas?

Kyle, I think that tank would make a pretty sweet seahorse tank.

Another idea, very tempting as well.

Good idea there as well.

I have much to ponder now. Right now I am leaning towards a NPS pred reef with a fu man chu lionfish, yellow-spotted scorpion, and a redfin waspfish pair. Of course various NPS. I may just do a macro tank for ease of care that way, but who knows.

Please keep the ideas coming!

Seahorse/non-photosynthetic tank

Gorgonians for the horses, with scattered Suncorals and Dendronephthea.

You wouldn't have to worry about expensive lighting. You would probably want a beast of a skimmer though since these corals and horses need to be fed a lot, preferably constantly.

Due to the feeding needs it may also be necessary to start culturing your own live food.

Great choice in tanks. I would do a tank that is meant to be seen from above as much as from the sides. Acros and clams come to mind.

That is a cool idea actually. I will look into that, sounds like that would be very interesting to watch.

Thanks.

My 120 is going to be SPS dominant (acros for the most part) and I would like each tank to be unique in the way they are set up. Preds, anemone (thinking haddoni), seahorses, and such that I won't/can't do in a reef with small fish. Good idea though.

Ah, I see. Well in that case, a frogfish or haddoni species tank would be pretty awesome. A mantis would be awesome as well.

I have had my 38 for quite some time with angels and my pleco, once they go, I will be switching to an axolotl tank. My reef tank will always be with me though.
