Leather Toadstool coral not doing good

It has been almost 9 days since I bought this coral and it has not opened its polyps since then. I am attaching the front and top view of the coral. I have put this under T5s and TMC Aquaray Mini LED 500 (http://www.americanaquariumproducts....led500unit.jpg), no luck on either of them.

On the top view, I am not sure what the white type of coloration is on the coral.

Tank info: 75R reef tank.
Ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 0
Nitrite: 0
Calcium: 500
Alk: 10
pH: 7.8 - 8.0 (I am not able to get it to 8.3)
Saltmix: IO Reef Crystal.

Give it some time. I have one similar to that and it opens and closes at various times of the day. It just needs time to acclimate to its surroundings.

+1 on time
sometimes they go through a shedding faze where they will be closed up.
Does it look glossy?

Thanks. How long would it take? It does look glossy while it is shedding and that is the only thing it does. Sometimes I gently blow it with a turkey baster for the coral to shed faster. BTW, what are the white coloration on its body.

It will take as long as it wants to get comfortable. Mine will sometimes scrunch up and i think this is how the light spots form. It will be fine. It looks just like mine. Soon you prob see little yellowish polyps.

I would move it lower away from the light so it can acclimate & make sure there's good flow on it.

Thanks. The light is around 6 1/2 inches above the water level and the coral is 3 1/2 inches below the water level. So how deep do you think I should put it?

you can start the leather at sandbed and then move it closer to light. I have a long polyp toadstool and tyree neon toadstool leather and both of them love the high flow and light. As someone mentioned above they sometime close up when shedding.

I've never had a leather shed for 9 days, though. A day and a half max in every tank I've had.

how much flow do you have going on in your set up jghoshal?

can I assume you turned everything off in terms of flow before taking the pictures?

Steve

My leather has spent its entire life on the sandbed! Would guess its getting too much light.

Thanks guys.

The original post regarding tank info. should be changed to 10R g tank. I have a 75 too and since I posted a different issue at another post for my 75, I just copy pasted the tank info. and so the only thing should change is the 10r gallon tank.

Yes the powerhead was turned off. Currently I have the Maxi-Jet 400 in circulation mode, and they claim to give 500gph in this mode. So I believe 500gph is more than enough for 10 gallons? Based on several comments, I have moved it deeper and waiting to see what happens.

My leather shed for the first two weeks, then split, then came back to life as two seperate corals. This is when I added it to my tank a few months ago. Both 'frags' are growing quick now.

Api test kit showed 500 for cal, not sure what the delta might be in comparison with salifert. I have the same reading on my 75 and all the corals are doing good. I am new to the LED lighting on this 10G and not sure whether the light is the cause of it.
