Temp probe placement question

I have a jager heater which is like 12 feet long (Lol) so the only place I could put it is in one of my overflow boxes. I place my RKL iTemp probe next to it in the same overflow. Is this the proper location for the iTemp probe or should/can I move it to the sump?

Thanks,
Bill

I wouldn't keep the temp probe in the same area as your heater. Also, with a heater that big, I would make sure to have plenty of redundancies to make sure it doesn't fail and boil your tank. I think you mentioned having a controller.

Yeah, I do have a controller. I have the Reefkeeper Lite. I also have a Ranco controller on my small tank that will be moved over to this one. I'll plug the heater in the Ranco and plug the Ranco in the RKL.

Thanks for the input. I just want the iTemp probe to be in the "best" location. Same with the Ranco temp probe when I move it.

Definitely put probes in the sump by your return pump. If you keep it in the overflow with the heater it will short cycle.

I like the idea of having the probes in the display tank. Reason is the display tank is what we're really wanting the readings for. But of course you have to look at it up there and honestly there's probably not a whole lot if difference between the two if any.

Yeah, that was one of my concerns. I have the heater set at 80 and the temp iTemp probe set at 78.5. I can hear it cycling pretty often.

I have mine set up in a way that the temp probe is in the overflow chamber and the heater in the return chamber if possible.

My heater will only fit in the overflow box or in the tank itself. It's like 17" tall.
