tank weight?
I am looking to build another tank i am not l limited on funds more on weight. I have a basement and i cannot modify the floors. The tank will be sitting on an exterior load bearing wall but still still on 2x10s. It will be on 4 to 5 2x10s and i am not sure if it will support the tank and all the stuff. What are the weights of a 75, 90, 120 gal tanks fully loaded and do y'all think the floor will support it.

Saltwater weighs 8.5 pounds per gallon, a 120 weighs maybe 150 pounds, stand about 75. You can add in rock at maybe 100 pounds but that also displaces water. Throw a sump and lighting....figure 1500-1750 pounds for a 120. Spread over that many joists that close to a bearing wall, you will be fine. I have a 120 against one for 4 years and zero problems.
Id even have no worries about putting a 180 gallon there, since it would be spread across tha mnay more joists. You will be fine

Load force is rather complicated. It’s not just simply knowing the dead weight and the dimensions of the joists. There are many factors taken into account.
That being said, with a slight level of reluctance, a 120 gallon should not be a problem running perpendicular to the joists below. |
