Mag 7 too big for bio reactor?
I just setup a new Reef Octopus BR-110 Biopellet reactor yesterday. The recommend size pump is a Mag 5 but I used a Mag 7 pump I had on hand figuring I could just turn down the flow with a valve as needed. The pump is pretty noisy. Kind of a combination of a vibration and a chattering as if the flow is pushing back on the pump too much. I have the flow turned down a little but even if I open it up all the way the noise doen't get any better. If greatly reduce the flow, the noise get's much worse.
Is this pump too much for the setup? Should I be running the recommend Mag 5 instead? P.S. Pumping for this pump & reactor all 1/2" btw. Thanks!

I have the same reactor, and believe that the Eheim 2000+ is a good choice. It has a variable flow built in from 265 to 528 gph, so there is no need for an additional ball valve, but you can still adjust the flow to meet the needs of your particular system as it changes.

Is it quiet? Are you running 1/2" or 3/4" tubing?
