Considering maxspect?? Keep looking

For me, it's the after sale support that makes or breaks the product. Maxspect has THE worst support line I've ever dealt with. Unreal. Nobody knows anything about the product or it's specs. Absolutely usless. If you are in the market for an LED light, look to other companies that will help you when you need help.

Who takes care of customer support up there? Here in the US it is coralvue and they do well. Maybe contact them and see what route they suggest taking...

It would help your credibility if you have an actual story to tell instead of just bashing the company. Also, this probably isn't the correct forum.

Thank goodness we have a CoralVue in the US. We can call the two reps that post on Reef Central personally........in fact, I have. Perhaps you should change your meassage to reflect bad customer service........in Canada, if that is indeed the case.

Call me directly if you have any Maxspect questions. Although CoralVue is only authorized to distribute in the US and Mexico, I happly answer everyone's questions relating to the Maxspect product line.

So, DID YOU PURCHASE A PRODUCT YOU KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT???? That was YOUR first mistake.
I have found all the info I needed right here on Reef Central. Threads, Coralvues thread page and Coralvue's home page.
I am planning on getting one more then likely and the Razor 16K 27 inches looks to be the one for me.
I don't understand the statement at all. You post here to ask questions I thought. You did not even ask a question.
www.coralvue.com Has loads of great information on the Razor! Everything from Programming to light spectrums.........................

Nothing but the best to say from me. It must be a Canada issue. Their US support is top notch

I believe they meant customer support had no knowledge of the product. I find it hard to blame a consumer for a companies customer service. It's already been stated that US support is good but it is the duty of the manufacturer to provide quality customer service to all customers. If it is outsourced it is still their responsibility to make sure the customer is taken care of properly by the company they pay. It all reflects back on the brand.

Maybe Coral Vue needs to take over Canada also? Then they could say in North America contact Coral Vue!

Not bashing the product, I am happy with the product. It's a maxspect G2 170W unit.

Ya sure, there's lots of info on how to program them, set them up, what LED's you get and what power they are, blah blah blah. But there is nothing available for the technical specs of the system.

My blue string went dead. I e-mailed coralvu to get some advice on chaning the LEDs. They told me what LEDs I can use, and pointed me to a supplier. No thanks, at $15-$20 a pop.

My plan is to use luxeon LEDs from stevesleds, as they are very well priced. So I asked for specs of the driver unit. Just asking simple things like the current is set to, and what it's capable of driving per string. Did I get any answer at all? Nope, not even a "sorry can't give you that information."

I peeled the unit apart, and did my own testing, and got all the info I was looking for. So like I said, product is good, the support and access to information is useless.

meshwheel, I did know what I was buying, that's why I bought it. Again, good product, you know the rest.

jerpa, thank you for understanding where I'm coming from. And I also highly doubt that Chris will know, or be able to find out, the specs of the driver.

I bought it used from a member on here. He didn't disclose that the blue lenses were cooked and on their way out, so I inherited the problem. When I ripped it all apart, I found that he had already replaced 98% of the LEDs with crees, which surprised me that they were burned. I assumed they are being overdriven from the factory, so I pulled out the fluke and started testing.

There are 3 strings. W, B, R. white blue and ???

On the W, there are 20 LEDs. They are pulling about 76vdc total, at a rate of 750mA.

On the B, there are 18 LEDs. They are pulling about 68vdc total, at a rate of 650mA.

On the R, there are 18 LEDs. They are pulling about 68vdc total, at a rate of 650mA.

This kind of surprised me that the crees were THAT burnt if they are only being driven at 650mA. The blue luxeon LEDs are rated at max of 1000mA, so they should be able to handle the 650mA without breaking a sweat.

The one spec I was looking for from anyone (and yes, I did send e-mails to all parties listed above) was the max voltage per string. Having measured it I know it can handle the voltages the strings are pulling, so that's my safe point. But I wanted to know what the absolute limit is. And THAT is the spec nobody knows.

I have nothing but the best comments about Chris and the way he provides customer service. I never dealt with more pleasant individual, went out of his way to help me solve the problems i had with my modules, I have 5 of them and work flawless!
