Want to know how you guys felt when you purchased your first fish parents reply too!

I just added my first 2 clowns to my qt and, i love watching them in the qt. Its in my bedroom while my dt is in the living room. I feel like a proud father(as you can probably tell dont have children yet) always checking to make sure they are ok.

I want to hear and know how you guys all feel about how you felt when you purchased that first fish or set of fish? And do you still feel the same way now?

Most of the fish in my display have been there almost 6 years now. They are less like children and more like old friends.

I recall being cheap with a 14 gallon biocube and buying 3 blue damsels. Nervous I would kill them. I then remember returning them not long after because I was tired of the bigger one chasing the others in the same pattern all over the tank. Then I was concerned at buying a $20 fish.. Now I'm in over $10,000 on a 180g and don't even blink when I can get out of the LFS for $20.

I was most definitely excited to be able to get them though.

I can't recall what my first fish was, or how I felt.

My first fish were a pair of clowns, and I too enjoyed watching them swim about when they first arrived. They're still happy and healthy and I still get a kick out of them. I can't say I love them as much as I love my kids...but, on the plus side, no matter how much people talk about the cost of this hobby, my fish are MUCH cheaper than my kids, even though my kids are now adults!

I had most of my fish for 3 years, they were like family : (. Unfortunately they all died in my move. I don't think I've ever cried so hard.

My first fish were 2 baby saltwater cats I caught in a cast net off a dock on the Intercoastal Canal when I was 9 years old. I kept them in a bait well on my dads boat all summer. Named them Tom and Kitty. Strange thing was every few days they would get smaller or bigger. My dad was a good man wasn't he.

I still get excited going out and looking for the fish and get them home. I like to watch and learn their little quirks and personalities. It can be quite humorous.
