What is this?

My brother has had his tank up and running since the end of June. He got a piece of rock with Coralline algae. A few weeks ago these gray jelly things appeared. Any idea what they are?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1350091177.585142.jpg

They look like little sclalups. You see these in a new cycled tank but will never stick around.

Look here for id help.Though i dont think they have these.

Did you mean scallops? I don't see a split where they would open. I'll stick with sponge.

It does look a bit like a sponge. Maybe this is just my inner child speaking but... Poke it and see what it does! If it's super soft and squishy, it's a sponge. Just be gentle. Don't crush it.

It is squishy like jelly and it appears to have gotten bigger since he first noticed it.
Thanks for the responses! Good to know that it isn't going to explode worms one day
