If You have an SRO 3000INT . . .

What's the water level of your sump where the SRO 3000INT is located? According to the specs, the optimal water level is 6.0" - 6.5". Even if I put it on a stand that does not leave a lot to work with. Why the heck does RO design its internal skimmers to work at such low water levels?

Thanks.

It is due to the masswive air draw by the pumps for the body size. You can restrict the air draw with a valve and sit it in deeper water. But then it would perform like any other skimmer.

I have that skimmer and raised it to 6.5". It works great! I have to adjust it very little. I do have the automatic neck cleaner which is a GREAT investment.

Is your skimmer brand new? If so, leave it open for a few days so it can build up a slime layer. Then slowly close the valve 1/4 turn a day until you find a "sweet spot" where it'll skim without overflowing the cup.

I have also noticed my Euroreef skimmers have also performed better in a lower water level, it has less back pressure on the pump

If you give the skimmer a vinegar/water bath it will greatly reduce the breakin time
