Filter sock ?

Ok I have always changed my filter socks every day. I use the 16 in socks by the way and they r not that old maybe a few months. They r no longer lasting 24 hours before they over flow.

Is there a way to clean these that will unclog them?

I normally just turn them inside out run in washing machine with bleach. Then let them dry then turn. Them right side again then after they dry run through a rinse cycle with just water to remove any last stuff from them. Then let dry again then use.

Anything I can do different or just buy new ones?

Roger

Have u done this before and do I have to power wash every time of just a power wash to reincarnate them?

no I never did that before, just trying to confuse you and get you to waste time ... booohahahah
Im kidding of course ... I guess with all the ppl copy pasting info, u gotta ask lol

I usually do what u do with washing machine and bleach.

once in a while[ every month so every 4 times], I take them with me to local car wash thingi [the DIY ones] and use their power washer to clean my socks.

they get ALOT cleaner and last longer everytime I do that, so do give it a shot. if it doesnt work, then ure socks are probably toooo old and need replacements [although I dont think they do, I have seen socks last for LONG] lol

i have always used them as u stated and got rid of them once they start overflowing with in 24 hrs. power wash sounds like a good idea but i bet it will tear up the filter sock soon enough.

You might want to try the mesh kind they don't clog as easily. I just clean my felt one in the washer with a bit of bleach, good as new.

I stopped using them but used to do exactly how you do it. My washer was s front load though, don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I use one, wash it, use it again, and then throw it away. At $2.92 each (McMasterCarr) they are hardly worth the effort to take to the car wash.

I use felt ones from BRS, i use them on my freshwater koi filter also so they get really nasty on the freshwater ones.
I spray them with a garden hose jet nozzle from the plastic ring down about 4-5 inches, turn them inside out and get anything off with the rinsing of the hose, turn them back and rinse well again. Then they are ready for the washing machine with a little bleach and extra rinse cycle. After the wash i put them in a box that gets filled with ozone very concentrated to kill any thing and leave them smelling fresh. I used to just throw them in the machine but they would come out and have little bits of algae on them which would just pollute the tank instead of cleaning it.

I use them about 20 times at least before i throw them away. They fall off of the plastic ring eventually, that's when it's time to replace them. At 5.69 each i like to get as many uses from them as possible.

Will put one on tomorrow and see what happens when I get home from work if its over flowing or not.

Do you do any extra rinsing afterwards such as rodi to ensure its bleach free?

i just turn mine inside out and spray from inside (which is actually the outside of the sock) to out to dislodge gunk. I just use a garden hose with one of those cone jet nozzles. Then to the washing machine with some bleach. Seems to work pretty good.......

What the heck is in your tank that gets them so dirty so quick? Does a new one from the LFS last any longer? I use socks and they last for 3-4 days before they start to overflow. I wash in Oxyclean (any hydrogen peroxide solution) and then 2 rinse cycles and mine come out spotless and useful.

Well as far as the knee socks question goes. I still have to buy 1 and find out if it'll go 24 hours or not. why is this happening well I started feeding my *** SPS coral with a new product. It seems to clog the filter socks.
