The European Model Is Forcing My Hand....What Size Generator?
So I have put this off long enough and Hurricane Sandy could potentially wreak havoc on the east coast. I got burned over the summer when a 15 hr black out set my tank back a good deal. Now that my tank is back to what it was prior to the black out, I cant take this chance again. So, what size and brand generator would you suggest?

Honda makes a great generator and I would buy the largest one you can afford.

It depends on what you think you need to run? I have a couple generators, honda being the best and most quite in my experience. They are extremely expensive considering everything.
In all reality I would be worried about being able to run your return pump and your tunze's...everything else would just be extra. This would be for those 15 hr blackouts, not the 1 week ones.

If you have gas in the road look in to one for your whole house. I picked up I think an 8500 k from costco six years ago to make sure I never have to use one. The stand alone units will go on by them self once a month for a few minutes, you have to change the oil once a year. Many people in Florida have them. They go on when the power goes out ,I think they go for around 8 or so installed thats a basic , heat , lights and your tank

A whole house natural gas unit is that woo woo but is very costly. A tank will do fine without light for a week. You just need to worry about flow and heat. In emergencies you end up in line at the gas pumps if there is any.
Alternatively you can buy a Honda knock off and convert it to tri fuel. Gasoline, propane, and natural gas. Have someone install a hookup for gas, use propane or gasoline if you have to should the gas main get damaged.
