Taking a break but still need advice.
I am taking a break from having a tank. So ive been selling everything locally and I just cant seem to part with my 2 clowns I have had for over a year. They are paired and just amuse me. So I cant get rid of them. So I am going to turn my QT into a FOWLR for them with my 2 clowns, fire shrimp, porcelain crab, and a few scarlet hermits.
I plan on using the same water. Add sand from the tank Im selling. Putting all the critters into a bucket and drip acclimate them. Im keeping a few small pieces of rock. Now as far as the sand, how much does it need to settle before I put the livestock in? This is all from a well established tank? Also will they be fine in a 14 gallon until I decide to get another tank, which will be in a year. I just have to take care of some financial obligations first. |

the sand will settle immidiatly. If you are worried about the water being cloudy it should be okay but you might give it an hour before adding the fish so they dont stress too much.

Thats what Im curious is how long I should wait before adding my critters into the tank. Can my fish stay in a bucket for that time?

They can stay in a bucket infdefinately if you got air heat and keep an eye on ammonia, but why not just put them directly into the 14 if your going to be using the water rocks and sand from your current display. Move them immediately and you shouldn't need to re-acclimate them.

I was concerned about the sand and all the particles floating around until it got settled. I wasnt sure if that would cause them a problem.

I imagine your clowns will be fine in your 14 gallon for a while (assuming they're not huge). I had a major leak in my DT about 5 months ago that required me to drain the tank and put my fish (listed below) in my 20g QT...no LR, bare bottom, just a couple of ceramic decorations. In addition to fixing the leak, I did a major overhaul on my DT, which took a while. Two of my fish went back into the DT earlier this week and my clowns are going back in tonight...yeah! All five fish have been fine in the QT for the past 5 months, although it's nice to see them back where they belong again.
