Quiet Skimmer options please! 210g SPS
I'm currently setting up a 210 with a 75 sump. Tank will be 99% SPS and in the main living room. I need to update my build thread with pics.
What are my options for skimmers that will be as quiet as possible in the cabinet (I built it tall, so skimmer height probably won't be an issue)? Wish to stay in the $500-700 range and may need to buy used for that budget. Currently running an SWC120 on my 40g tank and while it's a nice skimmer, it is loud! Thanks! |

I just upgraded to a ATI PowerCone and it's so silent compared to my old SWC Extreme 200. The only noise I hear now is the constant stream of water from my calcium reactor return. ReefGeek has them.
Edit: Here's a video I found of how it actually sounds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9Cowx-Qrcg Last edited by rsuplido; 11/13/2012 at 01:47 PM. |

Reggie, thanks for the feedback! I will research that model line. I will have a moderate fish load with many small SPS colonies initially, but wish to buy the right skimmer from the start. I would buy another SWC in a heartbeat if I didn't care about noise.

BK's, ATB's and ATI's are all great quiet choices. Many people like the reef octo's with the bubble blaster pumps. They will be closer to that budget of yours new. I am bias to ATB because Victor has treated me like family from day one.

Great! I'll look into all of those options, holiday sales, and used equipment section. It's been a long year of planning and procurement. So ready to get this 210 cycling and firing up my Geisemann Spectra!
