ORP keeps increasing when Ozone is off
I recently setup an Ozone reactor and generator while my ORP was around 250 or so. I use the Avast Marine Mutiny Ozone Reactor and then push the effluent though 6 cups of carbon (also an Avast Marine reactor).
I use an Apex Controller to turn the ozone generator on and off. Over a few days the ORP did go up to 350, which is when it is to turn off (and I did confirm it is off; and no green light on the generator showing anymore). But now the unit has been off for a couple days but ORP keeps going up... up to 410 right now. Is this possibly just from Ozone still trapped in the reactor? The air pump stays on and water continues to flow through it, but would have thought any remaining Ozone would have passed through quickly after turning off. Thoughts?

Hmm, I never used a reactor.I just always introduced it into my skimmer.I found that when my mg/hr were set too high then it would go pretty high after it shut off.Mine does sometimes go 45mv/L above what it should.160mv/L above though, that's a bit much.Try Removing the probe, and then Plygging it back in, I've had some success with that.If it is a new fixture (2 weeks or less) then it may still be working the bugs out..

I did turn my mg/hr to max, 200mg. but that would be ~right for a 450g system. regardless i will turn it down to 125mg/hr and see if (once it drops) it gives the same result.

Yeah...See it seems to me that the "Rated" mg/hr levels that are recommended are a little high.64mg/hr was the number I was supposed to run, but it kept doing me the way it's now doing you, by way over shooting the ORP.I now run at around 40mg/hr.

I am experiencing the same thing. I currently have two possible root causes.
First, I notice that micro bubbles collect under the probe and when I shake them lose the value comes back down close to my set point (375). I try to do this without removing the probe from the water. Even more significant is the second cause which is related to my ATO with Kalkwasser. Without kalkwasser in the ATO my ozone tracks nicely near the set-point bumping along a narrow range ~ +/- 2mV with the ozone turning on and off. I have never read anywhere of kalkwasser interferring with ORP values or probe function. I would be interested in knowing if there is any correlation with your system. Hope this helps. Regards |

hm. whereas I don't dose kalkwasser i did start using a calcium reactor the other day, right around the time this increase in ORP started happening. The Calcium Rx drips into the same compartment that the ORP probe is. Maybe the co2 is playing with it? I can move the probe to a different compartment before the ozone output and the probe to test that out.
I do have a micro-bubble issue right now also though so maybe i just need to shake it too.
