Deep Sea Aquatics Aquariums- Anyone?

I saw the DS105 and fell in love with it. It's 48" wide X 21" X 24" front to back. That's perfect! It's a little more expensive than an All Glass or Aqueon 125 gallon, does not have Starfire glass, but the dimensions in my mind are perfect. Also the 80 gallon which I am considering is 48" high X 21" high but 20" deep, that will also work. I was just wondering if anyone has one of these aquariums and what they think of it? I am excited that I discovered this company, I saw the aquarium at an LFS. I am in the process of rethinking my upgrade. Thanks

I loved DSA tanks. I had that exact same tank, It was a little big for my spot, so I sold it and had them custom make me a 36 x 24 x 20 tall tank. I highly recommend them

I've been procrastinating buying an Aqueon or All-glass 90 gallon for 3 years, probably for good reason.

Check out DSA and then give Armando and Hector a call at Planet Aquariums. Their number is 214-275-3958. Planet Aquariums just put together a custom 437 gallon tank for me. Very easy people to work with and good quality. They were also pretty quick getting the tank built. Tell them Mike said to give them a call.

I have the 105 and I love it. Couldn't be happier. Picture is a little old, but you can check the build thread for more if you want.

Glad you think so... My LFS swears they're awesome, just ordered a DSA 135. Got the 48x24x27 with a starphire front. Had to custom order it, hope its worth it... 10-14 days and counting!

I have a 150g from Planet Aquariums, and a 90g to replace a 110g. They make awesome tanks, and the price is very reasonable. The owner of Planet Aquariums worked for Oceanic for 15 years, until they were bought out. The formed the group that started Deep Sea Aquatics. After 3 years, the a deal fell through and they left to form Panet Aquariums. They trained the people at DSA. Here are some pics of mine before use. I wanted a traditional look, with upgraded features like a PVC bottom, split centerbrace on the 150g, etc. -

wildman, why the pvc bottom and why no reef ready? don't want to hijack this thread.

to the op, I have heard nothing but good things about both DSA and planet aquariums.

I don't believe in putting holes in glass, although everyone does it. I like a more traditional look. Just my personal preferences.

The pvc bottom provides extra structural integrity, but is more forgiving in the event there is any issues with the levelness of the tank. It is better in supporting weight of live rock.

You can order the tanks any way you like them.

More pics of the shop when I picked up the tanks. The second to last pic is my 150g. The last pic is a tank that went to the Dallas Zoo in the McDonalds -

I think the best thing about DSA is they continue to find ways to build tanks without center bracing or braces across the top of the aquarium making it very easy to use different lights without restrictions.

Planet aquariums makes nice tanks, but Deep sea is gonna be cheaper, since you dont have to pay shipping.

Both companies are in Dallas so shipping would not be an issue. Just have to decide which company you think has a better product and at what price range.

Love, love, love...
I have a local dealer that sells DSA, and I am thinking about the DSA 105 Rimless ... But still on the fence about Rimed or Not Rimmed. And I know Starphire would be extra. The more I read the more I like!

Would you buy a product where the people making them have over 20 years experience? Or just a few years under their belt? That is the difference between the two. Planet Aquariums has the experience. Again, before the owners/builders of Planet Aquariums left DSA, they trained the current employees at DSA.

There is no secret to that. You are restricted to the height of the aquarium to go without bracing.

I chose bracing, as I run glass tops. When you order a tank with Planet Aquariums, you start from scratch. They have an order form they will discuss with you.

I just picked up my tank from Planet Aquariums on Saturday (11/17/12)... Great & EASY people to deal with. I got quotes from DSA, ReefSavvy, Miracles, Aquarium Creations, & Planet Aquariums. Planet Aquariums was by far the most reasonable.... They were almost half of what DSA quoted me! It's a custom 3-sided-starphire 105g rimless. I LOVE IT.

Hope these pics show up....

Yort265,

That is one beautiful tank. PVC bottom, rimless, braceless, black silicone, reef ready, etc. Very nice.
