Foam

So I am using a 1" thick 50"x50" piece of Baltic birch plywood for the top of my stand. I painted it and there are definitely little imperfections. My question is do I need to use foam under the tank? The tank is 48"x48"x25" and is acrylic. My main problem with the foam is that I don't want to see it. Also what kind of foam would I need to use and where do you get it at?
