My method to reduce phosphate and Nitrate for algae free water

Hi guys ,

I have a small problem with brown and green algae.
I want to have crystal clear water. So I have bought the following

1- NPX bio pellets in phosban reactor using rio2100 pump
This pump provides a good tumble.
2- upgraded my cheap skimmer to an SRO XP1000sss
3- Phos ban GFO media. I am just hanging it on my sump where
Water flows. I traded the phosban reactor for a nice green Gonophoria

Will this help me eliminate the green algae?

The main source usually the water source. Then good water flow to prevent unwanted uneatin and and fish waste from colleting.

how old is your tank... have you tested your water to determine Phosphate and nitrate values? there is often an algae phase associated with tanks as they mature.
The skimmer upgrade is smart...
I would hold off on biopellets and first see what happens with just the upgraded skimmer. (give it a month to break in and another month to see what happens)... carbon dosing came about to get a very low nutrient tank to ULN... it was not meant to control algae. GFO can be run, just watch the phosphate so you don't use too much and do not hit it with a lot of flow otherwise it can break apart and that would be bad.

Your carbon (bio-pellets) will help to consume the nitrate and that's a plus. What are your nitrate and phosphate readings and how old is your tank?

Hey

Tank is currently at 6mo.

Phosphates and nitrates almost Down to 0

Skimmer first... run it and give it a couple months to break in and see what it can do... no need to run biopellets yet if there may be no need to run biopellets... besides, as far as your tank goes, it is better to make one change at a time, let it stabilize, and see if any other changes may need to be done... At least this way you'll know just what effect each change has on your system.
