Reef Crystals Yellow Water?
I mixed my first batch or IO Reef Crystals in a Brute trash can with a mag 5 pump over the weekend and the water looks yellow. What would cause this? Is it not good to use? I am going to try and make another batch from another box tomorrow and would love if anyone has any tips on keeping it from doing this.

I've been using RC for years, and mix in a Brute can, with never a problem. Any possibility something else entered the water?

Make sure you mix up the bag/bucket before you use it. |

Shouldn't make a difference I have used reef crystals many times and have never had my water turn yellow and have added all the salt at one time on more than one occasion. I do use a mag 12 in my 32g brute but I don't know why that would make a difference

I agree I have never had reef crystal turn my water a yellow color. I have used it for 5 years with no problems. LMK if you figure out what the problem is.

No yellowing here either, and have been using reef crystals for almost 3 years. I make batches of 20 gallons each week for 10% water changes. 0 TDS RODI goes into a 22 gallon rubbermaid bin, 1400 gph pump goes into the bin and turned on, then 8 trowelfulls of the salt get trowelled in. I do shake the trowel so that the salt "rains" into the bin rather than dump it in, but I don't particularly do it slow.

Update
Mixed new saltwater on Wednesday night and let it sit in the brute can with the pump until this morning. Everything looks good…no yellowing. Not sure what fixed the problem. It could be one of many things. Either cleaning the brute cans, changing RO/DI filters, using new bag of salt that I shook before using, adding salt slowly, bad batch of salt, or all of the above. Not sure but its fixed. Thanks everyone for your input.

No yellowing here. One thing I did notice, after every 20% water change, the ph goes down approx .05, and takes a couple days to come back up.
