Cyano... There's a sticky on it. If you can get it off without a razor blade it's cyano

Fish list:Yellow tang
Kole tang
Melanurus wrasse
Ocellaris clown
yellow tail Damsel
Bangai cardinal
Inverts:2 cleaner shrimp

10 Astreea snails
2 nassarius snails

Fish are small.Planning to upgrade in may when i move out into a bigger house.I know tangs arent supposed to live in a 55G but im stuck with them now .
No i do not have a skimmer im looking for one asap ive read that cyano can easily spread if i dont have a skimmer.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.Thanks

+1 on a skimmer. I normally over size by 1.5 times the gallons of the tank just to make sure I get all the bad crud out of the tank. Good luck. Btw 2 months sounds a little short for coralline algae. Around 4 to 6 you should start to see small coralline algae if your water parameters are kept correct.

Do you have an RO/DI unit for your water? Do you have a sump? What else are you using in your system for filtration?

Cyano can spread with or without a skimmer.

You havent identified if the purple is cyano or coralline. You didnt tell us if its hard to get off the rock or if its like slime.

Also for a tank thats only 2 months old, thats a hell of a lot of fish.

And your right. Tangs shouldnt be put in a 55. Start looking for a 75 or 90 now.

Im guessing no quarantine either.

it most likely cyano bacteria. scrub and siphon most out do water changes cut lights out and increase flow. if everything fails u can use chemi clean (not a big fan) but it works.

thats a heavy bioload for that tank size especially since it's new and you're skimmerless. Got any sort of nutrient export going on? like chaeto ... one way or another you need to cleanup your water
