4x24 Sunpower vs 150w Phoenix

Here's sample pics of my ATI Sunpower 4x24 w/ 1 ATI ACTINIC, 1 KZ FIJI PURPLE & 2 ATI BLUE PLUS bulbs. Bottom of fixture is almost 5" above top of tank.

150w Phoenix HQI in reef optix pendant running on sunlight supply bluewave m-81 ballast, bottom of pendant is 10" above top of tank.

This pic has the reflector a little closer to the top i think. In real life the right side of the tank looks much brighter than the pic, for some reason the pics don't turn out that way at all.

So ATI Sunpower

150w HQI almost 2x higher above than the sunpower

For a semi-close pic comparison.lol

Phoenix 150w

Sunpower

I probably wasn't holing the HQI straight down but tilted toward the front glass making more shadows, oops.

My experience with the Phoenix is it doss a poor job with reds and greens, your pics seem to show the same.

I think the greens look as good or better, epecially the zoas. The 150w is more blue looking than the 250w I think, if that matters IDK?

Even when I had my ge6500 instead of actinic I thought the HQI looked brighter but that doesnt mean higher PAR and more consistent PAR.
To my eye the HQI looks a bit brighter but you would hope so considering its twice as much watts.

I never ran the 150 Phoenix but ran the 250 watt for years. Given a choice, I will always run the150 watt Radium over the Phoenix. Both are excellent bulbs. I am enjoying the 10k Ushio's too much to go back to Radiums for now.

It would be interesting to see par readings for both of ose setups, the ATI should give much better spread of par.

I do think the PAR and spread of the ATI has to be better overall, I would like to prove it soon.

I'm still waiting to see the 150w Radiums, I really REALLY want to try them but want to see them on my ballast before dropping $75 , especially after just buying Phoenix bulbs for $35 each. I do like Phoenix but if Radiums are better I will buy a couple, not sure about the "new" radium compared to the older bulb, I hear they aren't as powerful as the old bulb? I do like the 250&400w Radiums I've seen.

Really, the 10k ushios? Do you use supplements? I love high PAR bulbs but don't have the option of supplementing with my reef optix pendants yet and just want a similar blue look as my Sunpower, if its close , I'm good with it.

The new Radiums are designed to run lower wattage and I don't think they are available here yet. It will be interesting to see how they do with M81 ballasts which will over drive them slightly. I am using 445nm Ecoxotic leds to supplement the Ushio's, but I am not a fan of the blue look, which is probably why the Radiums fit my tank so well, they are more white than most 20k's.

A couple of pics to show the difference but keep in mind my camera blows and the white balance is a little off, but these are close to reality. I need to take some fresh pics, the tank has grown a lot under the 10k's and I changed the aqua scape again since these were taken.

150 watt Radiums

10K Ushio's with Ecoxotic leds

The difference in par is about 30%

I like the radium , just enough blue on the sand bed , I'm surprised there isn't much blue with the ushio 10k's even with the LEDs
