How to Quarantine a YHJ?
Hopefully, tomorrow I will be picking up a yellow headed jawfish. I'm just wondering how I would quarantine the fish since my QT is bare bottom and the jawfish likes to burrow.
All help is appreciated! |

place it in QT and place a bowl of silica sand in the QT for it.
1"-2" deep is good enough. Reason for not to use live sand, live rock, or any carbonate-based decorations is when you medicate with copper and/or other meds, this material interferes with the proper dosage. Also, if using copper, the life will die in the sand and the rock and cause a spike of ammonia and nitrite. For a sick fish, this can be near instant death. Silica sand doesn't cause any problems noted above.
