What size heater do you recommend?

Im looking to purchase 2 heaters for my new reef tank, I think Ill be going with the Eheim/ Jager titanium heaters, unless someone recommends anything different ...

The speck of my tank:

Tank- 65G
Sump- 24"L x 13"W x 22"H
Refugium- 19"L x 12"W x 16"H

What size Jager titanium heaters do you recommend for my tank if buying 2?

What bnumair said. I have two jagers in for my 55 gallon in progress tank. Great heater and very reliable. Heats and holds the temperature exactly on point even with my ac dipping to 72-71. Tank sits at 78.5-79F

You also need to consider the temp of your home. If you keep it 70 or less, youll need to go 10 watts per gallon to be on the safe side

Exactly. During the winter, while we are gone to work during the day, the house temp is set to 66, so the tank heaters have a big job to do. In my 75 gallon, two 150watt Jagers aren't enough to keep up unless I shut the bedroom door to hold the heat in the room.

So, take the room temp into consideration.

Well it was the opposite time of year that got me. I keep my house very cool in the summer and corals started having problems. Couldnt figure out what was wrong until I looked at the temp. My heaters couldnt keep up. So I had to add more heaters. My tank temp wouldnt go past 75 degrees with my house so cool.

Where are you finding Jager titanium heaters? I can't find them anywhere. I only see conventional glass.
I'd be interested in titanium myself.

Not only room temperature but depending on house construction and insulation as well as tank location will matter. 5 - 10 watts per gallon is what I would go with.

Seems like 2 x 100W isn't the right answer....so how about 2 x 200? also my apologies, it seems like the Eheim Jager isn't titanium so now the question comes up, do i stick to the jager (non titanium) or do i go with a titanium heater? If so which one is best?

i replied ur pm, and if u want to be on the safe side u can add another heater and go 3x100watt but i am pretty confident that 200watts will be ok on a 65 gal tank.

EDIT: is this 65 gal total volume or 65 tank plus fuge plus sump?
if its 65+sump+fuge then yes 2x200watts

My house is actually always in a range of room temp and its very well insulated. So I think Ill stick to the 2 x 100W. Any particular heater you suggest i buy?

Thanks again for all the help!

I've always had good luck with the Eheim Jager heaters. They are glass, but very durable. I would just make sure to hook them up to a controller if you can. Just a nice fail safe option to have.

Yes, I have the Apex controller and ill be hooking the two heaters up to that, so perhaps ill stick to jager if titanium isn't a big advantage against the thicker more durable glass of the jager heaters...

glass tends to break due to multiple reasons, human error, rock fall, out of water and still running etc. i always prefer titanium. i am happy with viaaqua titanium heaters. i have 6 of them and never had any issues.

I have a 200w heater in my 55g and overnight when my furnace drops from it's normal 68 degrees to 64 degrees, I'm finding that my heater can't keep up with demand. I'm planning on upgrading to a 300w here soon. The best the heater can do is 79 degrees overnight. I normally run between 79.8 - 80.2 degrees.
