What Is A Damaged Byssal
Is the Byssal of a Maxima clam damaged when you lift the clam up to look at the bottom and there is stringy sand attached to the clam? There is sand dangling from a small amount on strings on the byssal.
I have never seen a clam with out this, is it damaged? How do you know if it is healthy? |

Yea, it was on the subsrate when I bought it. I placed it on the sand last night. Today I placed it on a small flat rock for it to attach itself too. I placed small rocks around it, but not touching it to keep it from falling on its side.
When I picked it up a little stringy stuff was on the bottom attached to sand. |

Its on its way to attaching to the rock now, I have it in place so I cant move it now. It looks really good fully open, no gaping, I think it will be ok,
But you sat its normal for there to be alittle stringy stuff on the bottom with sand attached? |

if its open and looks good it will attach itself to the rock and and drop the sand. try not to move when its attached to the rock you could then do some damage.
